犯罪学概述

Criminologists use concepts 和 methods from social 和 behavioral sciences—social work, 社会学, 心理学, 政治科学, 法律研究, 历史, criminal justice—to explore the causes 和 consequences of criminal behavior. Our program is based on principles of social justice 和 will challenge students to analyze data on crime perpetration 和 victimization, to examine the impact of social inequality on definitions 和 control of human behavior, to examine the impact of legal 和 social policies on criminal behavior, 检查和评估犯罪预防, 控制模型, 以及罪犯治疗项目.

  • All students complete a capstone seminar that channels the knowledge they’ve accumulated into a discipline-specific project under close faculty guidance.

This course explores the intersection of the criminal justice 和 mental health systems. Areas of focus include: the impact of governmental policies, 法律的变化, prevalence of mental illness among offender populations, 罪犯的生物心理社会地位, interventions that assist offenders transitioning back into society.

Students in the Integrative Capstone course have worked on 研究 with direct impact on the Chatham campus community—including an evaluation of gendered language in University policy/documents, design 和 implementation of data collection strategies for a campus climate survey, design of a campus survey on gender 和 sexual violence prevalence.
